Greek Isles - Part One - Kea & Siros
08/04/05 - people watching, travel

After a morning in Athens we headed down to the docks to really start our trip. We boarded a private catamaran with 15 cabins to begin our cruise of the Cyclades Islands. Our first stop was a very small town on the island of Kea. It was sleepy and beautiful. We only got to enjoy the evening there, but I think it was one of my favorites for its calm beauty and soft sunset. Our next stop was meant to be Siros which is dense and has two strong churches, the Orthodox Greek and the Catholic which sit on neigboring hills and glare each other down. However our stop there was brief as they were calling for force 7 winds (these are small gall winds - very strong, force 12 is a hurricane) and the captain didn't want to get stuck in that port. So we touched in the port briefly because some lost luggage had been dropped off by the airport, and then we headed out for Paros. I DO NOT like sailing in force 7 winds. It was so not fun!! But we made it fine to the next stop and our little time in the harbor provided for a few good pictures of Siros.
