Greek Isles - Part Four - Sunny Santorini
08/23/05 - people watching, travel

Santorini was a rather unique and interesting island. I have the say the thing I love most about it is the sunsets!! I mean WOW!! Santorini was a volcano that blew around 3800 years ago in an explosion three times the size of Krakatoa. What is now Santorini is the outter c shaped ring of the volcano mountain with a small island in the center that is a still semi active volcano mouth and has slowly built it self out of the water. The towns of Santorini have been built up on the cliffs of the ring and can only be reached by a long winding path (by foot or on burrow) or by air gondola. Because of an earthquake in the 50's most of the buildings are all newer than the other islands we visited. Still beautiful in its own way if mostly due to height and sunsets!!
